Prof. Khalid M. Yousri

INTRODUCTION:

Doctor Khalid M. Yousri is Professor of Properties and Strength of Materials. He was Vice Chairman for Research and Studies Affairs at Housing & Building National Research Center, Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Egypt (2011-2022).

Dr. Khalid is Consultant Engineer with over than 35years’ experience in the areas of concrete technology, construction materials, ready mixed concrete and construction methods. His expertise includes problem solving, testing and repair of different structures, rehabilitation and strengthening of corroded reinforced concrete structures, quality control & assurance, specifications, nondestructive evaluation, and research. He is an author with numerous articles. His background as a researcher and builder provides a solid basis of technical and practical knowledge in the field of construction industry. Dr. Khalid is Partner and Founder of Modules Egypt consulting office.

IN THE FIELD OF GREEN & SUSTAINABLE CONCEPT:

    • Member of the Egyptian Council for Green Building and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Housing, Utilities & Unban Communities.
    • Member of the Building Materials Committee of the Egyptian Council for Green Architecture and Sustainable Development.
    • Member of the international work team “New Medina- from Pilot Towns to Sustainable Cities” project, in cooperation with the European Union, to transfer the experiences of the northern Mediterranean countries (France – Belgium) to the southern Mediterranean (Egypt – Morocco – Algeria) in the field of designing sustainable cities.
    • Head of the working group to provide technical support (advisory services for 25,000 units) to complete the design and construction of the first green social housing project in Egypt (6 projects) funded by the Fund in order to achieve sustainable development goals for adoption according to the evaluation system (the Egyptian Green Pyramid) in cooperation with the World Bank.
    • Head of the working group to prepare an environmentally friendly green social housing assessment system.
    • Head of the center’s working group to coordinate with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank for cooperation in the field of issuing certificates for facilities and urban communities.
    • Head of the work team to design the Ministry of Environment building according to the Green Pyramid Rating System in the Fifth Settlement – New Cairo, to be the first environmentally friendly government building in the country with the work of integrated designs for the Ministry’s building in New Cairo on the land allocated for this project with an area of ​​8593 square meters, so that the building is one of the architectural marks in Egypt as the first building An integrated green that was designed and evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the Egyptian Green Pyramid evaluation system, in seven basic axes of the evaluation system, in line with local and global considerations.
    • Head of the working group from the Housing and Building National Research Center in alliance with the Consulting Office of Arab Consulting Engineers (Muharram – Bakhoum) and the winner of the tender for preparing designs and tender documents and supervising the implementation of projects of the Sustainable Sanitation Services Program in Rural Areas (SRSSP) and based on results in Dakahlia (Villages Group A) financed by the World Bank.
    • Head of the joint research team from the Housing and Building National Research Center and the Canadian University of Alberta – during a period of 5 years – which ended with reaching a model related to converting traditional activated sludge plants for sewage treatment (two-treatment) to three-treatment plants using sustainable and low-cost techniques.
    • Member of the steering committee organizing 2nd NSF Sustainable Smart Cities International workshop, ” Sustainable Smart Cities in Arid Regions, Egypt  University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB SSCRC) 
    • In the field of urban development: Participated the following Panels of Experts through the CIUDAD program with the cooperation of EU:

     

    • Panel of experts in November 2011. Project of Sidi Abdellah new town Algeria.
    • Panel of experts in Marseille, 2012, France
    • Panel of experts in September 2012. Project New Fayoum City. Egypt.

    The aim of the program is cooperation and exchange of practices between EU countries and the EU neighborhood policy’s countries, including central and eastern European countries that are not members of EU and Mediterranean countries. This program aims to reinforce local and regional government’s capacities by promoting an urban, integrated and sustainable development. It focuses on three main topics:

    –                       Sustainable development and energetic efficiency,

    –                      Economic development and reduction of social disparities,

    –                      Good governance, development and long term urban planning.
